Course Schedule and Recommended Materials

1. Still Life in the Style of a Master

Making marks on paper exercise, followed by drawing a still life in the style of a master.

(pencils, ballpoint pen, sketchbook)

2. Architecture, Sculpture and Nature

Describing the physical environment with simple contour lines

(pencils and sketchbook)

3. Still Life with Found Objects

Creating volume with contour, cross contour, cross hatching and shading. Still life of small found objects

(pencils, drawing nib and pen holder, black ink or a fine liner pen, sketchbook)

4. Still life with Flowers

Drawing with colour

(coloured pencils, pastels, cartridge paper)

5. Collage

Composition - collage with cut paper

(glue stick, scrap papers, magazines, scissors)

6. Painting from the imagination

Brush strokes: making ink marks that trigger the imagination

(black permanent waterproof ink)

7. Still Life with Fabrics

Watercolour techniques: hue, value, intensity of colour – monochromatic and full colour

(watercolour set, pencils, sketchbook, watercolour paper)

8. Self Portrait

Watercolour: temperature & complementary colours

(Watercolours, watercolour paper or sketchbook, pencils, a close-up photo of yourself)

9. Still Life: A Meaningful Object

Watercolour & emotion of colour.

(watercolours, your own object, watercolour paper or heavy weight cartridge paper)

10. Painting Birds

Mixed media and watercolour. Painting birds using John James Audubon as inspiration

(watercolours, pencils, colour pencils, ink, pen and nib or fine liner)

11. ACRYLIC COLOUR BLOCK / FLAT COLOURS / MIXING EVEN TONES & HUES

(thin board A3, acrylic, palette knife)

12. Animals and Painting Fur

ACRYLIC PAINTING ANIMALS– Painting animals with fur

(acrylic paint, palette knife, acrylic paper A3)

13. Abstraction

ACRYLIC WASH TECHNIQUE, CREATING LAYERS OF COLOUR- abstract

(acrylics, palette knife, acrylic paper)

14. A Winter Scene

ACRYLIC FOLK ART- A Winter scene

(acrylics, palette knife, acrylic paper)

15. Illustration and Visualising Words

Draw and paint from a description. You can use

pen & ink, watercolour, coloured pencil, acrylic or pencil.

16. Patterns and Home-Made Christmas Wrapping Paper

BLOCK PRINTING-creating pattern and wrapping paper
