Maximum eight students. All materials included, all levels welcome including complete beginners.

Edges
Edges are extraordinarily expressive elements of drawings. They tell us what is soft, what is hard; what is shiny, what is matte; what is near, what is far; what is important, what is to be ignored; and so much more. In this one-day course we will look at how several master draughtsman have employed edges in their drawings, do exercises inspired by their work, and learn how to incorporate into our own drawings a more expanded knowledge and understanding of edges.
Morning session
* What are edges?
* How do artists use edges expressively?
* An exercise responding to one of the artworks we’ve looked at.
Afternoon session
* You’ll do a copy of a master drawing or a simple still life focusing particularly on edge work.
You will leave the class with:
* Your drawings (which will mostly be in charcoal)
* Further knowledge and understanding about edges from an art historical, a technical and an expressive perspective.
