· A gentle icebreaker where each participant briefly introduces themselves, and we establish group agreements to create a safe space.
· Brief presentation on artists’ books and autobiographical examples.
· Mindful unfolding of the blank concertina book.
10:30 – 11:30 | Mapping Your Story
· Guided journaling: key moments, emotions, or themes.
· Translate into colours, shapes, or personal symbols.
· Begin sketching the flow of your story across the concertina.
11:30 – 12:30 | Materials & Mixed-Media Exploration
· Introduction to collage, paint, fabric, secret pockets, folds, cutouts, and found objects.
· Mindful colour exercise: shades associated with memory and mood.
· Begin layering and building textures on pages.
12:30 – 1:00 | Words & Images (Part 1)
· Concise reflective writing (poetry, affirmations, memory fragments).
· Experiment with handwriting, stencils, or collaged words.
1:00 – 2:00 | Lunch Break
2:00 – 2:45 | Words & Images (Part 2)
· Combine text with visuals, weaving together your unique “voice” and “vision.”
· Continue layering pages.
2:45 – 3:30 | Depth & Dimension
· Demonstration of pockets, flaps, and hidden compartments.
· Symbolic making: doors, windows, or secret layers.
3:30 – 4:15 | Sequencing & Narrative Flow
· Arrange concertina panels for narrative rhythm.
· Explore balance between challenges, growth, and hope.
4:15 – 4:45 | Finishing Touches
· Add covers, binding, or protective wrapping.
· Personalise with final details.
4:45 – 5:15 | Sharing & Reflection
· Optional sharing of completed concertina autobiographies.
· Closing reflection: “What did I learn today?”
· Gentle grounding to end the session.
