Still life (Flowers)
We are delighted that Nick Archer will be bringing one of his popular weekend workshops to the Chiswick Art School classroom at Dukes’ Meadows.
A flower arrangement will be set up in the studio to work from. The focus will be collecting reference material and then looking at how to translate this reference material onto a large piece of work focusing on creative mark-making.
Course programme
Day 1
10am Meet at studio, Set up workstations around the still life in the studio to make drawings and take photographs.
11.30am Tea/Coffee break
Continue collecting reference material from the still life in the studio
12:30 Lunch
1.15pm short presentation about relevant artists and a talk about possible working methods
1:45pm Set up workstation in studio and start work from morning sketches and photographs on a large ‘final piece’.
3.45pm Tea/Coffee and group discussion of the day’s work
Day 2
10am Meet at studio, continue with painting with tutoring and assistance from Nick.
11.30am Tea/Coffee
Continue working from reference collected or directly from the flowers
12:30 pm Lunch
1:15pm Continue with final painting
3.45pm Tea/Coffee and group discussion of weekend’s work
materials to bring
drawing materials such as charcoal, pencils rubbers. Painting equipment including brushes, jars, oils, acrylic or watercolours (suggested colours - titanium white, ultramarine blue, viridian green, yellow ochre, cadmium lemon yellow, cadmium red, alizarine crimson) an appropriate support for the final studio piece, rags. If working in oils: low odour thinners.
