Botanicals: from drawing to painting (referencing Rory McEwan)
Graphite and watercolour
Morning session- 10-12.30pm
Lunch 12.30-1.30pm
Afternoon session- 1.30-4pm
Join us for a creative day of botanical drawing and painting inspired by the delicate paintings of Rory McEwan.
In the morning session, we will begin with some quick warm-up pencil exercises before studying individual flowers -selected from the bunches provided- learning how to capture their unique forms and individual details. From there we will explore techniques with thin washes of watercolour and learn how to build up form layer by layer. Together we will look at how McEwan used fine, delicate brush marks to bring his botanicals to life and begin to add these methods to our own work.
After a one hour lunch break (Chiswick food market will be right on our doorstep for options! or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch along with you), we will return to the studio to develop our paintings further. Adding richer pigments, layered detailing and shadows, each student will be able to work towards a finished work of botanical art (or even a couple depending on speed) to take home for framing!
