Illustration Workshop: The Four Seasons
Illustrate a child exploring the ever-changing outside world from one season to the next
Learn how to visualise seasonal poetry that is charming and lyrical, with a touch of the fantastic, the abstract and the fanciful.
Create a consistent character that will be used in your illustrations depicting aspects of the four seasons.
A full-day workshop including interpretation, learning illustration techniques, and creating a take-home booklet of your work
Maximum class size 8. All materials are provided, and you may bring your own favourite materials if you wish
Course Programme
Morning Session 10-12:30pm
We will begin with drawing. We will look at the work of Seng Soun Ratnavanh who illustrated Beautiful Day! Petite Poems for all Seasons, written by Rodoula Pappa. You will learn how to draw a child proportionally, how to show expression and personality, and how to animate your character. We will start off doing pencil sketches and later in the morning move onto colour using watercolour and coloured pencils.
Lunch Break 12:30-1:00
During lunch break, I would like you to draw seasonal inspiration from the Farmer’s Market. You can either bring your own lunch or enjoy food from one of the market stalls.
Afternoon session 1:00-4:00
In the afternoon session you will be reading the poems of Rodoula Pappa an dcreating illustrations using the character you created in the morning session. You will use coloured pencil and watercolour and create a small booklet of your finished work.
