The Power Of Drawing

Materials to have with you for most lessons: Daler Rowney Fine Grain-Heavyweight A3 paper pad, variety of graphite pencils from hard to soft, rubber (not putty), Stanley knife, masking tape, A2 plastic folder to carry drawings.

Feel the Freedom. Different ways of sketching human figure. Both groups
Materials: Cheap sketching paper pad or plenty of A4 printing paper, soft graphite pencils (B3-B9), marker pen black or brown, watercolour or watercolour ink (black), small to medium size soft round watercolour brush (can be synthetic), jar for water to wash your brush, paper towel.
Julia Hawkins is an award-winning contemporary figurative artist based in Surrey, where she teaches at the Leatherhead Institute and runs a private teaching studio. She also teaches drawing and painting in Brighton at Sussex County Art Club.
Elected a Member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2020, she is a regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries in London with the ROI and other groups such as the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, New English Art Club. Her work was also selected for the prestigious Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize exhibitions.
Julia's portraits and landscapes reveal an experienced painter and colourist, who tries to capture the essence of her subject. A number of her works are owned by private collectors both in the UK and internationally.
Julia is a member of Chelsea Art Society and the Dorking Group of Artists. She exhibits with the Jonathan Cooper Park Walk Gallery in Chelsea and in Surrey. In 2019 Julia was invited to teach a five-week course at the Royal Academy and in 2020 at the St Ives School of Painting.
