Course Programme
1. Colour Mixing and Blending – Seascape (Master Copy I)
Continue developing colour mixing and blending skills through a seascape study. Introduction to master copy practice.
2. Still Life with Cast and Drapery (Inspired by J. S. Chardin)
Focus on creating clear, balanced compositions and a subtle, harmonious use of colour.
3. Still Life with Cast and Drapery – Second Session
Continue developing the painting, with special attention to handling different edges and refining form.
4. Impasto and Texture Practice (Palette Knife Technique)
Apply thick layers of paint using a palette knife. Subjects may include a textured floral field, tree bark, or a master copy inspired by Frank Auerbach, Richard Musgrave-Evans, or Vincent van Gogh.
5. Limited Palette Challenge
Use only ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, and titanium white. Create a moody portrait, mountain landscape, or misty forest scene.
6. Still Life with Dramatic Lighting – Books and Glass Vessels
Introduction to monochrome underpainting and the chiaroscuro techniques of Renaissance artists.
7. Still Life with Dramatic Lighting – Second Session
Continue developing the painting, focusing on details, light contrasts, and depth.
8. Alla Prima (Wet-on-Wet) Painting
Create a floral composition (magnolia or other flowers), focusing on freshness and spontaneity.
9–10. Fruits and Vegetables – Study After Cézanne
Explore structure, colour planes, and brushwork inspired by Cézanne’s technique.
11. Plein Air Landscape or Master Copy
Outdoor painting session, weather permitting, or landscape master copy study.
12. Student Project
Independent project: plein air painting or interior composition (depending on weather conditions).
