Want to try your hand at pottery?
Join our Pottery Club, the perfect place to learn the key basic techniques taught by a practicing ceramic artist in a friendly nurturing atmosphere.
Pottery Club is designed for beginners, to develop skills and confidence with clay. Working with clay is both fun and meditative. So prepare to be hooked.
You will learn how to prepare the clay, use different hand-building methods, the potters wheel and will then glaze your pots.
Course Programme
The course is made up of three four-week stand alone modules:
Module 1: Pinch Pot Handbuilding
The most basic form of handbuilding: using the pinch pot technique to create abstract forms. The fourth session will be for decorating and glazing your finished pieces
Module 2: Slab and Coil Building
Slab and coil building are essential techniques: we use them to explore making functional pieces. The fourth session will be for decorating and glazing your finished pieces
Module 3: Throwing on the Wheel
This module will focus on throwing, i.e. using the potters wheel. The fourth session will be for decorating and glazing your finished pieces
Bring an apron and a tea towel with you.
Clay is included in the cost of each module, however there is a glazing and firing charge of £10 per kilo to cover the costs of glaze materials and running the kiln. This equates to around £2-£3 per pot.
You will have access to all the tools you need for your workshop.
