Woodland Painting in Rye

We are excited to continue our programme of weekend art courses in 2024 with experienced tutor Nick Archer. The courses are based just outside of Rye in the beautiful Wealden countryside, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Woodland Painting Weekends 20-21 April and 4-5 May 2024

These two Woodland Painting courses coincide with the arrival of the Spring bluebells. The courses begin with painting and drawing directly from observation in the woods near the studio, collecting reference material through drawing and using this to create art works in the nearby studio. The amount of time spent in the woods will be dependent on weather, but a camp area with cover and a compost toilet is available in the woodland area which is less than a mile from the studio.

The groups are small (6 people maximum) and are tailored to all abilities from complete beginners to those with more experience. The workshop will explore ways to observe the landscape directly as well as how to collect reference material so painting can be completed back in the studio.

Accommodation is available at discounted rates at the nearby Flackley Ash hotel on the Friday and Saturday nights. There is a choice of a standard or superior room and the hotel facilities such as the pool and spa are available for use. Breakfast to the value of £17 will be provided at the hotel and lunch provided at the studio.

Price includes lunches and easels, drawing boards andpalettes. A full list of materials to bring will be sent out in advance of the weekend.
