The course will begin with Still Life and drawing from observation, working directly from nature using found pieces such as plants, flowers and leaves. Through close observation, we’ll explore shape, structure, tone, light and shadow, learning how to bring natural forms to life through drawing.  We’ll then move from drawing into mark making with inks and fine liners, exploring expressive line, texture and different ways of describing form. From there, we’ll introduce ink washes before progressing into watercolour, building on our understanding of tone and learning how to translate it into colour.  The watercolour section will focus on images of gardens and landscapes, exploring light, atmosphere, transparent washes and mixing colour palettes. We’ll look at how colour relationships, transparency vs opaque applications and composition can be used to create a sense of space and depth, whilst developing a more confident and expressive approach to watercolour.
