Expressive drawing bridges technical skill and emotional storytelling. Move beyond "taking a picture" with your pencil to translate how a subject feels onto the paper. Through active observation, you will learn to capture the energy of a subject rather than just its physical form

 This class is for beginners and more experienced artist who want to enhance their observational drawing skills.

Course Exercises

  • Life Drawing: Capturing the human form.

  • En Plein Air: Sketching outdoors in nature.

  • Still Life: Finding beauty in everyday objects.

  • Poetic Imagery: Translating text into art.

Core Skills

  • Line Quality: Master variation and flow.

  • Values: Use light and shading for depth.

  • Mark Making: Develop a unique visual vocabulary.

  • Composition: Arrange elements with intent.

  • Proportion: Balance accuracy with imagination.

Recommended Materials

You will need: Pencils, coloured pencils, ink and  brushes

Trisha Krauss

Trisha Krauss is illustrator with many years of experience, specialising in narrative, fashion, and editorial art. Her practice focuses on the intersection of drawing and imagination. She also leads the Beginners’ Art Club, guiding new artists through diverse creative techniques in painting and drawing.
